Howard Maizes (1933-2018)
Howard Maizes was the founding partner of Maizes & Maizes LLP. Howard practiced law form 1958 when he graduated Brooklyn Law School with a LL.B. He was considered a preeminent authority on real estate matters, including residential and commercial transactions, wills, trusts and estate planning, mechanic's liens and corporate/entity planning. With an ancillary family background in building and construction, many clients appreciated not only his 50+ years of expertise and advise, but his kindness, empathy and patience. His reputation is second to none amongst his piers, and his clientele is broad and diversified. His reputation was that of a "deal maker" vis-à-vis a deal breaker. He was married to Jeanette, his wife of 60 years, who does double duty as our office manager. He had three children: Michael and Steven, both lawyers who are associated with the firm, and Allen, an Anesthesiologist, and nine grandchildren. He died on August 18, 2018 after a long illness. Our firm bears his name and continues in his honor.
Michael is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and Florida and various Federal Courts, including the United States Supreme Court. He graduated from State University of New York at Albany with honors, and from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1984, where he was on its National Moot Court Team. Since then, he has tried hundreds of cases to verdict, for plaintiffs and defendants, in civil and criminal matters. He is a Martindale-Hubbell Pier Rated AV attorney which is the highest possible rating for legal ability and ethics. He holds additional Insurance and Real Estate brokerage licenses, is a judicial referee, and is the author of a popular and widely used New York real estate computer form system. Many of his clients are former adversaries, law firms and their partners, brokers and other professionals. A substantial portion of current clients come from referrrals and recommendations and word of mouth. He is also the SVP and head of business affairs for SFM Entertainment LLC and has executive produced numerous network and cable television shows and events.
Steven graduated Wesleyan University with highest honors and was a Kodak Academic All-American for its Basketball team. Thereafter, he attended Yale University School of Law. He worked for large New York law firms and acquired significant experience in Corporate law and foreclosure matters. He presently serves as counsel to the firm, and is a licensed mortgage broker and banker in Los Angeles, California. He is the Vice President of Mortgage Lending for Guaranteed Rate Mortgage, one of the country's largest mortgage brokerage houses. He has been honored and recognized as one of the Nation's most accomplished financing originators. He is also a business affairs manager for a manufacturing company.
